Settling 9/10

Settling 9/10

Size 107 x 81cm The term settling means to cause sediment or dregs to sink or be deposited. The big rivers of the world like the Nile and the Amazon have massive deltas which are formed at the mouth of the systems. When I flew over this area at 6000 feet I was reminded of the delta formations. This is a very small creek on a floodplain on the edge of Van Dieman Gulf but I could see the action of water flowing down the creek and reaching a flatter area which causes the water to slow down. As it slows it spreads wider and wider and at the same time the sediments drop out. This sediment deposit then affects the flow and thus a delta and sediment pattern is formed.
